2nd Annual Miles for Melanoma of DE 5K

Team Smitty raised $100 for Miles for Melanoma which donates to the Melanoma Research Foundation.  Hopefully, next year we can raise some more, but $100 is $100 and it is $100 more than they would have had had we not raised funds.  If anybody would like to donate they can do so here- http://www.firstgiving.com/teamsmitty

We had eight members of Team Smitty

Carri Birdsall

Mary Katharine Hitchcock

James O’Rourke

Samantha O’Rourke

Wendy O’Rourke

Steve Reinsfelder

Mary K. Smith

Nathaniel P. Smith

The 5K was held on the Wilmington Riverfront.  The weather was PERFECT.  It couldn’t have been any better- not too hot, not too cold.

Anna Marie Farro (co-founder of Miles for Melanoma of DE ) was one of the first people that I saw as we were waiting in line to register.  It was great to see her!

We had seven participants.  Wendy, Steve, & Samantha were all in different stages of sickness, so I really appreciate them being “game” and being there in memory of John!

We did get an official team photo taken by the photographer, so hopefully that will turn out well.  I thought it probably wouldn’t be appropriate to hand her the camera and say, “can you take one so we don’t have to buy one.”  Luckily, 5K photos are much more inexpensive than horse show photos, so it won’t break the bank to purchase one if I decide to.

Before the run started, they had a brief Jazzercise session to help people warm up and loosen their muscles.

I’ll add more photos later…

About Mary K. Smith

I was widowed in July 2009, when I lost my beloved husband, John, to melanoma. Cancer SUCKS. We have a young son who was just a year old when his father died. I live on a small farm in Maryland which is home to horses, cats, and a dog. I started this blog as a way for me to heal, a way to remember my husband, and eventually I'd like to share it with our son so he can see the love that his father had for him, the love that we had for each other, what a great person his father was, and how hard his father fought to live.
