The new haircut

I have a new haircut… well… it’s about a month or so old, by now… but newly unveiled in photo format…

Here’s a before shot from John’s retirement in March

And the after-

Now you may wonder is it really true…

Well… that is still up for debate…

But I have a very good reason behind the crazy change…

This is my 2nd donation to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.  In the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program the hair donations are used to make wigs for women cancer patients.

I decided a few years ago that I wanted to donate in memory of John’s mother, Ann.  She died of a rare type of sinus cancer.  When she was undergoing chemo, her hair fell out and I know that it broke her heart to have it happen.  The wigs out there were pretty pathetic.

I can’t do much, but one little thing I can do, once my hair grows, is to donate it.

The cut is still growing on me… I let the lady do what she was going to do… it’s a lot shorter than I would have gone, but it will grow back.  Although it may be 3 years before I can donate again (vs about 1 1/2 yrs).

Funny thing is, 1st thing I thought was… wow… John would hate it.  His preference in women’s hair was long.  It was one appearance thing that he made clear.  He was NOT a fan of short hair.  However, when I told him that I wanted to donate the 1st time & my reason, he was fine with it… I think he’d be okay with it now, too…

not crazy over it…

not in love with it…

but understanding…

About Mary K. Smith

I was widowed in July 2009, when I lost my beloved husband, John, to melanoma. Cancer SUCKS. We have a young son who was just a year old when his father died. I live on a small farm in Maryland which is home to horses, cats, and a dog. I started this blog as a way for me to heal, a way to remember my husband, and eventually I'd like to share it with our son so he can see the love that his father had for him, the love that we had for each other, what a great person his father was, and how hard his father fought to live.
