Pet Cemetery

Today, I had my dog walking training for Delaware SPCA.  On the property is a pet cemetery.  As I was walking the dog, I through the pet cemetery.  Some of the stones had dates listed.  A lot of them were right around nine or ten years.  It kind of made me think, isn’t it amazing the amount of joy one critter who is only in your life for ten years can bring?  I’ve been blessed to share my life with many amazing cats, dogs, and horses over the years.

John only had 35 years on this earth, but I will always treasure the almost 12 years that I shared with him will always have a huge impact on me.  John, love you always…

About Mary K. Smith

I was widowed in July 2009, when I lost my beloved husband, John, to melanoma. Cancer SUCKS. We have a young son who was just a year old when his father died. I live on a small farm in Maryland which is home to horses, cats, and a dog. I started this blog as a way for me to heal, a way to remember my husband, and eventually I'd like to share it with our son so he can see the love that his father had for him, the love that we had for each other, what a great person his father was, and how hard his father fought to live.
