A new puppy…

You ever notice how it is when somebody loses a pet their way of dealing with it tends to fall into different categories.  There are the people who go right out and get another puppy so soon after their beloved dog has passed.  There are the people who swear they’ll never get another dog… they’re done.  And then there are people who fall somewhere in the middle and eventually get a new puppy, but not till later or they continue with one less dog.  And then there are the people who get the new puppy before the old dog passes, but do it with thought that their other dog is getting up in years.

For those that race right out and get a new puppy, people often say that they’re replacing the deceased dog.  Who knows, maybe sometimes that is the case.  Maybe they’re looking to fill that hole in their heart.  Maybe they just want joy and happiness to return.  Maybe they think that the expectation is to get a new dog and continue life.

Who knows… every person is an individual and everybody has their own way of dealing with grief.  People as a whole tend to be judgmental, but there are some instances where it would be best to just keep their noses out of… this would be one… let people decide when or if they are getting a new dog  (unless there is destructive behavior involved).

In my case… time will tell… the hole remains… no thoughts of a puppy for now…

Kari, thanks for being that should to cry on…

About Mary K. Smith

I was widowed in July 2009, when I lost my beloved husband, John, to melanoma. Cancer SUCKS. We have a young son who was just a year old when his father died. I live on a small farm in Maryland which is home to horses, cats, and a dog. I started this blog as a way for me to heal, a way to remember my husband, and eventually I'd like to share it with our son so he can see the love that his father had for him, the love that we had for each other, what a great person his father was, and how hard his father fought to live.

Ah so true, and yet no spirit is ever replaceable in my heart. 🙂 So much love! Of course, multi-animals…we, with the old, middle-age, and young…circle of life I suppose. Only complete surrounded by ponies, kitties, pooches and the friends and family that we love, have loved, will love. *HUGS*
